The “Ignition Point 24-2” C-IED exercise, organized by the Hungarian Defence Forces 1st Engineer and Riverine Guard Regiment, took place at the HDF Military Training Area in Újdörögd from October 14-18, 2024. The NATO EOD Centre of Excellence (COE) was invited to participate as observers, represented by Warrant Officer Gábor Korom.
The exercise comprised several scenarios, executed by explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel around the clock. During the night operations, the EOD teams tackled special tasks, including the neutralization of explosive devices following a simulated terrorist attack.
The soldiers of the HDF 1st EOD and Riverine Guard Regiment faced challenging conditions in responding to a simulated bombing at a nightclub. Using bomb detection dogs, EOD robots, drones, and heavy bomb suits, they identified and disarmed various improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
"The primary goal of the exercise was to push our personnel out of their comfort zone, testing the regiment's capabilities in an environment closely resembling real operational conditions," explained Major Balázs Bukta, commander of the EOD battalion of the regiment, who deemed the exercise a success.
