LTC Blake Zenteno (USA-A) and LTC Alexander Hugyar, PhD (SVK-A) represented the NATO EOD COE at the Countering Explosive Threat and Demining Conference (CEDAT). The CEDAT conference is an annually organized event by Defence iQ in the United Kingdom, bringing together military, law enforcement, governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as industry professionals to exchange information on Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and demining.
This year, the conference took place over two days, from 22. September to 23. September, 2025. The first day was focused on enhancing Counter-Explosive Ordnance (EO) capabilities, building national capacities in conflict zones, and fostering international cooperation in demining and EO disposal. Key discussions addressed readiness, resource utilization, training programs, and how to tackle legacy contamination, with insights from military, humanitarian, and industry perspectives. On the second day, the emphasis shifted to future directions in EOD and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) operations. There was a highlight on advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and remote sensing technologies. Sessions explored innovative approaches to detection and disposal, integrating mine action with humanitarian development, and using technology to enhance safety and efficiency in EOD operations.
In conclusion, the NATO EOD COE appreciates the excellent selection of speakers, the panel discussions, and the opportunities for networking within the community of interest on these critical topics in countering explosive threats.
