NATO EOD COE hosted the 1st Writing Session for ATP-3.18.1 Allied Tactical Publication for Explosive Ordnance Disposal, from 28 February to 02 March 2023. The activity was organized by German Army Concepts and Capabilities Development Centre, the custodian of this doctrine, in close coordination with EOD COE’s Transformation Support Department (TSD), as an in-person event.
During this three-days event, 10 participants from 8 NATO nations (CZE, DEU, DNK, GBR, HUN, ROU, SVK and USA), as Subject Matter Experts (SME) in the field of MILENG, EOD and C-IED, developed a Study Draft of the new ATP-3.18.1. The guiding documents were the Revision Task from NATO Standardization Office (NSO), dated 12 July 2021, and the Adjudicated Request for Feedback (RFF) Response Matrix for the previous version of the standard. The adjudication took place during the 63rd EOD Working Group Meeting, organized over the period 24-28 October 2022, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The proposed Study Draft will be soon posted on the NSO website and all the NATO nations, command structures, force structures and bodies will have the chance to make comments and suggest modifications. All of these comments will be discussed and analysed during the 64th EOD Working Group Meeting, which will take place between 22 to 26 May 2023, in London, United Kingdom. Based on the results, the custodian will create the Final Draft or will make the arrangements for the 2nd Writing Session.
The revision of ATP-3.18.1 will be developed with normal priority and shall be ratified by at least 15 NATO nations.
NATO EOD COE will continue to support the revision of all EOD-related policies, concepts, doctrines and standards, acting as NATO’s catalyst for improvement and transformation of EOD.
