The 7th  Military Engineering Annual Discipline Conference

From  29 MAR to 30 MAR 2023, the NATO EOD COE hosted the 7th  MILENG ADC in Trencin, Slovakia. The event was led by the Military Engineering Centre of Excellence (MILENG COE), as the MILENG Education and Training (E&T) Department Head (DH) and supported by Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation/Joint Force Development (HQ SACT/JFD) and SHAPE JENG division as the MILENG Requirement Authority. The aim of the ADC is to review & update requirements, validate or adjust the Ε&Τ solutions to ensure that Ε&Τ remains aligned with evolving needs, available capabilities and resources.

In particular, the following objectives were scrutinized:

  • MILENG discipline contribution to NATO’s Global Programming,
  • update on available courses within MILENG discipline, including EOD field of expertise,
  • further progress on revision of the MILENG Discipline Alignment Plan 2022,
  • improvement of MILENG E&T to comply with NATO’s multidomain operations requirements, 

During the conference, the NATO EOD COE introduced its project related to Education and Training support kit that will utilize the virtual reality technology for the EOD operator’s preparation. The conference culminated by signing the coordination letter between NATO EOD COE and the MILENG COE regarding the MILENG DH’s function. The coordination letter gives competences to NATO EOD COE to conduct required Training Needs Analysis, elaborate EOD E&T solution and other tasks with focus on EOD expertise in support of MILENG function and DH. The SHAPE JENG expressed his satisfaction with the smooth execution and excellent cooperation between the two COEs.
