Following the completion of development efforts and workshops, the time has come once again for end-user testing! The first location of this year’s field tests was Hungary, where the NATO EOD COE Technology Department, represented by MSGT Gábor Korom, Deputy Project Manager (DPM) of the ETACS project, conducted the EOD/IED VR Training and XR Combat Support KIT (ETACS) field test. The event was hosted by the Hungarian Defence Forces 1st EOD and River Guard Regiment at their base in Budapest, from November 13 to 15, 2024.
This marked the third occasion that Hungary hosted an ETACS field test. During his official visit, MSGT Gábor Korom presented the latest developments of the ETACS project for 2024, emphasizing the importance of end-user feedback, which plays a crucial role in shaping future development directions.
The primary goal of the test was to demonstrate the current state of the ETACS system, providing participants with the opportunity to engage with and rigorously test the system. The event brought together soldiers with varying levels of EOD expertise, representing diverse age groups and professional backgrounds. Their perspectives and insights significantly contributed to the development process.
The participants’ openness and active collaboration were instrumental throughout the test. The NATO EOD COE ETACS Deputy Project Manager (DPM) worked closely with the soldiers to gather their observations and suggestions. The detailed feedback provided by the participants offered valuable input for refining and enhancing the ETACS system.
At the conclusion of the field test, MAJ Balázs Bukta, acting as the Point of Contact (POC), and the Deputy Project Manager summarized the outcomes of the event. They highlighted key ideas and potential development opportunities that could serve as the foundation for future collaborations.
Both parties – the NATO EOD COE and the Hungarian Defence Forces 1st EOD and River Guard Regiment – deemed the event highly productive and beneficial. Both sides expressed their enthusiasm for continuing joint efforts and exploring further opportunities for development in the future.
