EU Common Military Training and Education

The primary aim of the seminar, that was as well attended by the members of the EOD COE Training Branch, was to identify solutions to optimize the current European Military Training and Education (T&E) implementation.

During this one day event (not only) the following topics were thoroughly discussed:

  • Training needs vs. Financial limitations: how to address this conflict, what measures to take to mitigate the negative influence of the financial cuts on the effectiveness of the T&E?
  • Pooling and Sharing (P&S) in the area of Training and Education: what are the limits, what are the current effective examples of P&S that may be replicated or extended to other T&E disciplines, what are the factors that effectively contribute to the student and teacher mobility?
  • Civil-Military Dual-use Training: What are the areas that could mutually meet the military and civilian training requirements within the EU Common Security Defence Policy (CSDP)?

The first and the second plenary session, as well as the moderated discussions in syndicates, addressed both, the individual T&E and collective training. The views and individual experience of the seminar members proved very valuable with many proposals and ideas to be further considered and developed in the course of the future EUMS endeavours.
