NORTHERN CHALLENGE 2022

From 26 SEPT to 6 OCT 2022 the Icelandic Coast Guard hosted multi-national Bomb Disposal Exercise “The Northern Challenge”. The Aim of the exercise was to train response to real-life terrorist incidents involving improvised and military explosive devices, similar to those that have occurred in recent NATO missions and of those to be expected in future missions.

28 EOD teams (land & maritime) from 14 countries participated at the exercise and had a unique opportunity to practice Tactics, Techniques and EOD Procedures (TTPs).  To improve the EOD teams TTPs, the deployed EOD teams practiced different scenarios that were observed in multiple worldwide conflicts zones.

The NATO EOD COE supported the exercise by active participation at the MN EOD CC staff officer position. All expectations of the exercise met EOD relevant standards as if the exercise’s detailed planning process though the 2022 year.
