SFA Conference and Workshop

The “Future of the Black Sea” and the “Game changers for the future security environment” were the main topics for the Strategic Foresight Conference and Workshop held from 9th to 11th May 2023 in Bucharest, Romania, organized by the Supreme Allied Command Transformation (ACT) with close cooperation with the Romanian Defence Staff-Navy HQ / HQ SACT/ Directorate of Strategic Plans and Policy.

The aim of the "Future of the Black Sea" Conference was to refine the understanding of the Future of the Black Sea by providing in-depth presentations and discussions on current regional and global events and trends that impact the resilience and future security environment in the region. The "Game changers for the future security environment" workshop’s aim was to identify key factors and events influencing the trajectory of future trends in order to ensure that the Alliance Military Instrument of Power is fit for purpose in the future. 

The conference and workshop participants from NATO organisations, NATO and selected Partner Nations, NATO Centres of Excellence as well as individuals from Academia and Industry who have expertise and invested interest in future trends and their impact on the security environment and the development of the future Military Instruments of Power had a great opportunity during this event to continue and maintain work transparency through open collaboration with discussions. The NATO EOD COE represented at this event Mr Vladimir VOSTIAR who shared the EOD and Centre´s perspectives during featured syndicate breakout sessions.  

The Conference and Workshop findings will inform the Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) 2023 Report. This report will be part of the iterative strategic foresight process that provides a vision of future warfare to support NATO and Defence Planners.
